A Must See Theatrical Event
One of Playwright August Wilson's greatest works, Fences comes to Laguna Playhouse in Spring 2025. Set in a racially segregated 1950s Pittsburgh, Fences tells the story of black former baseball star Troy Maxson who now spends his days at his job as a sanitation worker. Troy also has the responsibility of looking after his wife and son, who he ultimately betrays with life-changing consequences.
Like all of the plays in Wilson's 10-play Century Cycle, Fences explores the lives of African Americans as they cope with life and race relations in a segregated society. Fences received the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1987 Tony Award for Best Play.
